We all know brake fluid is essential, the core of the brake system. A hydraulic fluid used to help the movement of the brake pedal to actuate the brake pads at the wheels, and therefore stopping your vehicle.  Easy, but with so many on the market, how do you know which one is suitable for your road, race or track car.  At WRS, we stock 4 options.

AP Racing brake fluids have been developed specially for use under arduous conditions, encountered at the highest levels of motorsport and performance road environments.

1. Factory R Dot 5.1 Performance Fluid

Factory R Dot 5.1 is AP Racing’s high-performance non-silicone-based brake and clutch fluid. Recommended for use in the hydraulic brake and clutch systems of all cars, for which a non-petroleum-based fluid is specified.

Suitable for high performance applications including vehicles fitted with ABS and ESP,  Factory R Dot 5.1 is worthy for road and track day use.

‘Typical’ Boiling Points.
- New Dry 269°C
- ‘Wet’ E.R. 180°C

2. Radi-CAL™ R2 Racing Fluid

R2 fluid has a dry boiling point exceeding 300°C and has been developed specifically for race applications where high temperatures are being experienced, e.g. when using carbon discs and the ultimate in brake fluid performance is required.

It should be noted that before using R2 fluid, any existing brake fluid should be drained completely from the brake system. The system should be thoroughly purged with new R2 and can be filled completely with new R2 fluid.

‘Typical’ Boiling Points.
- New Dry 312°C
- ‘Wet’ E.R. 204°C

3. Radi-CAL™ R3 - Racing Fluid

R3 has a dry boiling point of 325°C (608°F) and has advanced moisture resistance properties, low levels of viscosity (for ease of bleeding), low levels of compressibility and meets DOT4 specifications.

R3 is suitable for all top levels of motorsport where abnormal temperatures are experienced. It should be noted that before using R3 fluid, any existing brake fluid should be drained completely from the brake system. The system should be thoroughly purged with new R3 and can be filled completely with new R3.

‘Typical’ Boiling Points.
- New Dry 325°C
- ‘Wet’ E.R. 204°C

NOTE:
With the introduction of an inhibitor R3 can now be used with magnesium components.

4. Brembo HTC-64T

Brembo HTC-64T is a high temperature brake fluid designed for the most extreme racing conditions. It has a dry boiling point of 335 deg C which is around 25 deg C higher than a typical racing brake fluid.

Developed exclusively for competition use, Brembo HTC 64T provides the highest performance under all racing conditions and has been used in F1, ALMS, DTM, WRC and BTCC.

For maximum performance it is recommended that Brembo HTC 64T is not mixed with other brake fluids.

‘Typical’ Boiling Points.
- Dry plus 335°C/ 635°C
- Wet plus 280°C/ 536°C
